Divorce and family is very different than most other fields of law. Yes, divorce and family law involve legal procedures, but at the heart of it, family law is about family. At Van Riper & Nies, we know that what we do may affect clients, especially young children, for the rest of their lives. We take that responsibility to heart and very seriously. Our trial attorneys do not permit husbands or wives of our clients, nor their attorneys, to bully or intimate our clients, at any point during the case. We are known as being legal warriors for our clients.
Van Riper & Nies divorce and family law lawyers combine court experience, compassion, skill, hard work, and trust when representing our clients in divorce proceedings. Our attorneys, Tim Nies and Christian Van Riper, take their jobs seriously and are known for working quickly and effectively. Our family attorneys are also experienced in paternity litigation, alimony modification, dependency (DCF) actions and all family law matters.
Divorce and Family Law Skills
Tim Nies, a US Army Ranger veteran, became highly proficient in divorce law while working for one of the most notable divorce appellate attorneys in South Florida. He is also a former lead casualty trial attorney for Marshall Dennehey, one of the largest law firms in Florida. There, he litigated and tried complex civil litigation cases on behalf of Fortune 500 companies, giving him ample experience navigating the court system. Tim is known in the community, by clients and other attorneys alike, as being a compassionate and trial savvy family lawyer who cares about winning. Tim does not allow his clients to be bullied during negotiations, mediations, depositions nor at trial.
Christian is a former prosecutor in the 19th Judicial Circuit and a former investigator with the Department of Children and Families (DCF). Very few attorneys have the experience Christian has with the legal issues of minors. As an investigator for DCF, Christian investigated allegations of child abuse and child neglect, giving him a wealth of knowledge on family law. As a former DCF investigator and a prosecutor, Christian is uniquely qualified in complex cases involving safety of minor children. Christian also represents minors charged with juvenile crimes and clients involved in Dependency Court (DCF) cases.
